UAE to donate Super Tucanos to Iraq

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is to supply Iraq with a number of Embraer EMB-314 Super Tucano light strike aircraft to help combat the Islamic State, a government official has reportedly disclosed. [ltr]Nellis AFB near Las Vegas, is one of the airbases where you can see F-35 Joint Strike Fighters fly.
Nellis AFB, Nevada, is one of the most interesting and busiest airbases in the US. Even outside the Green/Red Flag periods.
Among the several units hosted by the airbase near Las Vegas, there is the 422nd Test and Evaluation Squadron, whose aim is to develop and test new tactics to employ weapons systems in combat.

The unit operates a fleet of A/OA-10, F-15C, F-15E, F-16CM, F-22 and F-35 aircraft.

Dealing with the Joint Strike Fighter, the 422nd TES is involved in development evaluation and supports the initial operational test to determine how to integrate the F-35 with other assets in the U.S. Air Force inventory.

The images in this post were taken at Nellis AFB in the morning on Jan. 12. They show some of the flying activity on an ordinary day at Nellis, including F-35s, F-16 Vipers and F-15E Strike Eagles assigned to the 422nd TES (with tail code "OT") taking off for missions inside the NTTR (Nevada Test & Training Range), as well as the Thunderbirds demo team performing their daily training sortie.

The 422nd TES works closely with the USAF Weapons School, also headquartered at Nellis.
The School's mission is to teach graduate-level instructor courses, which provide advanced training in weapons and tactics employment to officers of the combat air forces.
The unit has received the first F-35, sporting the typical "WA" tail code, on Jan. 15.

O Tribunal Constitucional (TC) vai analisar o caso de Hugo Ernano, condenado em 2008 por ter disparado contra uma carrinha e, sem o saber, baleado um menor de idade. “Se fosse hoje teria feito exactamente a mesma coisa”, é o que o militar Hugo Ernano, de 35 anos, repete, sempre que um jornalista pergunta se está arrependido. Diz ainda que esgotou todas as formas de actuar que tinha ao seu alcance e que não sabia – tal como provado em tribunal – que uma criança circulava no carro. No dia 11 de Agosto de 2008 foi quando tudo aconteceu. Acabou por, sem intenção, ser baleada uma criança de 13 anos que viajava com o pai, de etnia cigana, Sandro. Este tinha levado o seu filho para um assalto. Sandro estava foragido há vários anos.   Esta é a versão muitíssimo resumida dos factos. Desde então Hugo Ernano tem lutado na justiça Portuguesa para ser ilibado. A sociedade encontra-se dividida: há quem defenda que foi usada força excessiva, há quem defenda o contrário. O PNR Odivelas afirmou recentemente seu apoio, recentemente, à causa deste militar e à sua luta na justiça.   [Tens de ter uma conta e sessão iniciada para poderes visualizar esta imagem]   Recursos e recursos Existiram vários recursos, sendo o último apreciado o do Supremo Tribunal de Justiça. O STJ manteve a pena de 4 anos de prisão efectiva e aumentou a indemnização de 45 mil euros para 55 mil euros. No entanto, uma esperança renasce para o militar. Soube-se no final da semana passada que o recurso para o Tribunal Constitucional foi aceite e será apreciado. Se alguma medida apreciada for declara como inconstitucional, a sentença poderá vir a ser alterada. Considera-se ainda, caso não exista informação positiva do Tribunal Constitucional, recorrer-se ao Tribunal Europeu.   Medo em usar a arma de fogo Em Agosto de 2014, Nuno Guedes da Associação dos Profissionais da Guarda, afirmou ao Tugaleaks que “não tenho grandes duvidas em afirmar que existe imenso receio em utilizar, seja de que forma for, a arma de fogo“. Tal deve-se ao “exemplo” de Hugo Ernano que, no cumprimento do seu dever como militar, está a ser punido criminalmente. Hoje, Nuno Guedes indica que “a APG/GNR continua atenta a todo o desenrolar do processo, estando ainda a apoiar as iniciativas de apoio ao nosso associado e Profissional da GNR”.  O Tugaleaks sabe ainda que o militar está a passar algumas dificuldades financeiras decorrentes de todo este processo e que existem já várias iniciativas de apoio a serem organizadas bem como outras já organizadas para o mesmo fim.
