Norway repeats leading role in NATOs Baltic Air Policing mission
21 MAY 2015Norway is the leading nation for the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission and flies currently with four F-16 fighters from Šiauliai airbase in Lithuania. They are augmented by Italian Eurofighters, British Typhoons and Belgian F-16s. Norway will lead the mission from May until August 2015.

Portugal new member in NATOs enhanced Air Policing efforts
19 MAY 2015Portuguese F-16 aircraft were deployed to Campia Turzii, Romania in early May and are integrated into NATO’s peacetime Air Policing posture until later this summer. The Portuguese F-16s will have Air Policing missions and training activities alongside the Romanian Air Force.

Exercise Combined Resolve IV takes place in Germany
15 MAY 2015Exercise Combined Resolve IV will feature more than 4,700 participants from 10 NATO Allies including Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Italy, Latvia, Romania, Slovenia, the United States, and 3 partner nations of Moldova, Montenegro and Serbia. The U.S. Army will exercise its regionally aligned forces to Europe at the Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels training areas (Germany) during the exercise Combined Resolve IV, from May 6 until June 26.

The Secretary General restated NATO's position on Russia's illegal and illegitimate annexation of Crimea and its continued destabilisation of eastern Ukraine. He urged all parties to implement the Minsk agreements in full, and called on Russia to withdraw its troops and support for the separatists in eastern Ukraine. Stressing the importance of transparency and predictability related to military activities, Mr Stoltenberg voiced concern about the large number of snap exercises conducted by Russia. The Secretary General made clear that NATO's policy remains unchanged. As a result of Russia's aggressive actions in Ukraine, NATO decided in April 2014 to suspend all practical cooperation with Russia, while keeping open political channels of communications. |
