WASHINGTON: U.S. dispatches elite troops to train Ukrainians

Hundreds of elite American paratroopers on Monday began training Ukrainian soldiers in the highest level training mission the United States has yet to undertake in that Eastern European nation.
Battlefield America: The War On The American People
    Posted: 20 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
We have entered into a particularly dismal chapter in the American narrative, one that shifts us from a swashbuckling tale of adventure into a bone-chilling horror story. As I document in my new book Battlefield America: The War on the American People, “we the people” have now come full circle, from being held captive by the British police state to being held captive by the American police state. In between, we have charted a course from revolutionaries fighting for our independence and a free people establishing a new nation to pioneers and explorers, braving the wilderness and expanding into new territories.
Grexit: Remaining In The Eurozone Is No Longer ‘The Base Case’ For Greece
    Posted: 20 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
According to the Wall Street Journal, Greece staying in the eurozone is no longer “the base case” for European officials, and one even told the Journal that “literally nothing has been achieved” in negotiations with the new Greek government since the Greek election almost three months ago. In other words, you can take all of that stuff you heard about how the Greek crisis was fixed and throw it out the window. Over the next few months, a big chunk of Greek government bonds held by the IMF and the European Central Bank will mature. Unless negotiations produce a load of new cash for Greece, there will be a default, and right now there is very little optimism that we will see an agreement any time soon.

“We don’t know where all the money is going.” The F-35 is the most expensive weapons program in history, with a total cost of $1.5 trillion, that has turned into a total fiasco. So here is an 8-minute documentary (with some cool footage of the thing flying, landing vertically, etc.) to give you the willies about how the system works, and what’s wrong with it.
FBI Corruption May Have Led to Execution of 14 Innocent People
    Posted: 20 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
The Justice Department and FBI have formally acknowledged that nearly every examiner in an elite FBI forensic unit gave flawed testimony in almost all trials in which they offered evidence against criminal defendants over more than a two-decade period before 2000.Of 28 examiners with the FBI Laboratory’s microscopic hair comparison unit, 26 overstated forensic matches in ways that favored prosecutors in more than 95 percent of the 268 trials reviewed so far …
    California Diaspora
    Posted: 20 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
California is an interesting place. Probably something like California never existed before. A barren state with no substantial natural resources, with cities constructed mostly directly over major fault lines, no water, the highest per capita immigrant population of any US state, and of course, also the state with the highest population per capita of lawyers. "Land of fruits and nuts." or "La La Land"
In New York, 88,000 people have applied for 55 affordable apartments in a single building
    Posted: 20 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
You may recall the infamous "poor door" development in New York — a luxury high-rise condo in Manhattan designed to include 55 affordable units that will be accessible from a separate entrance. The developer, Extell, agreed to include the below market-rate apartments in exchange for permission from the city to construct a larger building on the site than the zoning code would normally allow. Affordable housing advocates, the mayor and the media, though, cried foul when they realized that Extell intended to separate the rich from the poor.

Sex, Drugs, and Dead Soldiers: What US Africa Command Doesn’t Want You to Know
    Posted: 20 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
For years, as U.S. military personnel moved into Africa in ever-increasing numbers, AFRICOM has effectively downplayed, disguised, or covered-up almost every aspect of its operations, from the locations of its troop deployments to those of itsexpanding string of outposts. Not surprisingly, it’s done the same when it comes to misdeeds by members of the command and continues to ignore questions surrounding crimes and alleged misconduct by its personnel, refusing even to answer emails or phone calls about them. With taxpayer money covering the salaries of lawbreakers and the men and women who investigate them, with America’s sons dying after drink and drug binges and its daughters assaulted and sexually abused while deployed, the American people deserve answers when it comes to the conduct of U.S. forces in Africa. Personally, I remain eager to hear AFRICOM’s side of the story, should Benjamin Benson ever be in the mood to return my calls.

Who Is Saudi Arabia Really Targeting In Its Price War?
    Posted: 20 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
Saudi Arabia is not trying to crush U.S. shale plays. Its oil-price war is with the investment banks and the stupid money they directed to fund the plays. It is also with the zero-interest rate economic conditions that made this possible. Saudi Arabia intends to keep oil prices low for as long as possible. Its oil production increased to 10.3 million barrels per day in March 2015. That is 700,000 barrels per day more than in December 2014 and the highest level since the Joint Organizations Data Initiative began compiling production data in 2002 (Figure 1 below). And Saudi Arabia’s rig count has never been higher.

Stunned Greeks React To Initial Capital Controls And The “Decree To Confiscate Reserves”, And They Are Not Happy
    Posted: 20 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
Earlier today, following weeks of speculation, Greece finally launched the first shot across the bow of capital controls, when it decreed that due to an “extremely urgent and unforeseen need” (ironically the need was quite foreseen since about 2010, but that is a different story), it would be “obliged” to transfer – as in confiscate - “idle cash reserves”located across the country’s local governments (i.e., various cities and municipalities) to the Greek central bank.
