Five arrested for organised burglaries of jewellery shops in Ireland
In the early hours of 15 April 2015, Europol provided supported to Irish Police, An Garda Síochána, in their extensive investigation into Romanian organised criminal groups involved in the aggravated burglaries of jewellery shops throughout Ireland. The operation has resulted in the arrest and detention of five men, all aged in their mid-thirties, mainly of Romanian nationality. A number of searches were conducted, during which computer equipment and phones were seized for potential evidence. Two Europol analysts provided on-the-spot operational support with a Europol mobile office. Europol also hosted operational meetings at their headquarters in The Hague to coordinate the action taken yesterday. The investigation was carried out by the newly formed Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, supported by detectives from Meath, Kildare and North Dublin, and the Garda Emergency Response Unit. |

NATO Secretary General Mr. Jens Stoltenberg will visit Copenhagen on Monday, 20 April 2015. Mr. Stoltenberg will have private audience with Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. He will also meet with the Prime Minister Mrs. Helle Thorning-Schmidt, the Minister of Defence Mr. Nicolai Wammen as well as the Speaker of Parliament Mr. Mogens Lykketoft and members of the Parliament’s Foreign Policy and Defense Committees. He will also deliver a speech entitled “Et vendepundkt for transatlantisk sikkerhed” at the University of Copenhagen.

Last August, the world watched in horror as the extremist armed group Islamic State, also known as ISIS, attacked Iraq’s Yezidi community. Thousands fled without food or water into the nearby Sinjar mountains, but ISIS fighters waylaid many, executing men and abducting thousands of people, mainly women and children. Rumors of forced marriage and enslavement of Yezidi girls and women swirled, and were later confirmed as a trickle of women and girls – number into the hundreds – escaped. Human Rights Watch researchers Samer Muscati and Rothna Begum interviewed 20 of these women and girls in Iraq. This is what they learned.
