[Tens de ter uma conta e sessão iniciada para poderes visualizar esta imagem]
NATO’s Return to Hope web documentary, which retraces the last 13 years of Afghanistan’s history and international involvement in the country, has been nominated for this year’s Webby Awards (‘the Oscars of the Internet’). Selected from 13,000 websites submitted from 60 countries, the web documentary is nominated in the category of Best Use of Photography. It has also been honoured in the Webby categories of Public Service & Activism and Best Visual Design.
The Webby Award brings together the highest-quality web content in the world.  In the category in which it is nominated, Return to Hope competes along websites produced by CNN, The New York Times, National Geographic and Mashable.com.
All five sites are also up for a People’s Voice Webby Award. Winners will be designated by public vote (see link below).
The NATO web documentary was also honoured in the Public Service & Activism category and in the Best Visual Design category, which praises 11 other sites from a number of prominent international brands.
NATO is honoured to receive such prestigious recognition for the Return to Hope website by the Webby Awards. The awards nomination and honours are a testament to not only the hard work of my team and that of the NATO Public Diplomacy Division, but to all international organisations on the impact of quality multimedia storytelling to connect with wider audiences. It’s also exciting that it is the public who will, at least partially, decide if NATO deserves this Webby Award,” says Steven Mehringer, Head of the Communications Services in NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division.
Return to Hope tells the story of Afghanistan by weaving together the accounts of six individuals whose lives have been inextricably linked to rebuilding the country. It also provides an in-depth look into the critical issues and challenges that marked the 13-year period of the deployment of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
Since its launch in September 2014, Return to Hope has won four awards, a notable feat for a website on a complex topic made by a public institution: The FWA (Site of the Day), Awwwards (Site of the Day), Designlicks (Site of the Day) and Web Designer Magazine (Site of the Day).

NATO Secretary General welcomes Montenegro’s progress on its Euro-Atlantic path

Bankrupt? Greece to Buy Russian Missiles
    Posted: 15 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
Just days after Russia lifted sanctions on providing anti-aircraft missiles to Iran, Reuters reports that The Greeks are in talks with Russia to purchase missiles for the S-300 defense system. Greece, a NATO member, has been in possession of the advanced Russian-made systems since the late 1990s and in a defiant show of independence towards Troika, is now negotiating with Russia for the purchase of additional missiles and for their maintenance.
The DEA Is Buying Off-the-Shelf Spyware From a Sketchy Company
    Posted: 15 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
The Drug Enforcement Administration has been buying spyware produced by the controversial Italian surveillance tech company Hacking Team since 2012, Motherboard has learned. The software, known as Remote Control System or “RCS,” is capable of intercepting phone calls, texts, and social media messages, and can surreptitiously turn on a user’s webcam and microphone as well as collect passwords.
Hackers Could Commandeer New Planes Through Passenger Wi-Fi
    Posted: 14 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
Seven years after the Federal Aviation Administration first warned Boeing that its new Dreamliner aircraft had a Wi-Fi design that made it vulnerable to hacking, a new government report suggests the passenger jets might still be vulnerable. Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets, as well as Airbus A350 and A380 aircraft, have Wi-Fi passenger networks that use the same network as the avionics systems of the planes, raising the possibility that a hacker could hijack the navigation system or commandeer the plane through the in-plane network, according to the US Government Accountability Office, which released a report about the planes today.

Bush is also a hardcore neocon, and member of the influential warmonger group Project for a New American Century. He’s for mass surveillance by the NSA. He supported the Iraq War, and has tapped key architects of his brother’s failed Iraq War as his advisors.
Russia Expands Sphere Of Influence via Iran Nuclear Deal
    Posted: 14 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
The nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 nations could lead to a flood of new oil hitting global markets. That could result in a significant drop in oil prices. While that would be damaging to Russia – already reeling from low prices – the Kremlin apparently believes an expanding presence in the Middle East outweighs the potential crude price collapse. The Energy Information Administration projects that a successful conclusion of negotiations in June that would result in a removal of sanctions on Iran could lead to a $5 to $15 per barrel price decline for oil in 2016. That would mean, according to the EIA, its forecast of $75 for Brent in 2016 could conceivably drop back down to $60.
Europe Will Be Very Angry When It Learns Greece Is About To Buy Russian Anti-Aircraft Missiles

In the past month momentum has mounted around a technology called CRISPR-Cas9, often described as a “search and replace” tool for DNA. The reason? It’s possible that scientists are now looking into using the revolutionary technique to permanently edit the genome of human eggs, sperm and embryos, a process called germline engineering.

    Corporate Farms Control of Water
    Posted: 14 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
Water and air are the most important resources on the planet. Breathing clean air seems to be accepted as a noble goal and the cost attributed to its improvement is usually universally accepted. However, the same cannot be said about access to fresh water as big business interests often argues. Many corporate interests contend that private ownership of public water out- weighs the rights of actual property owners. Corporate agriculture is quite different from traditional family farming. Yet, the factory farms that have taken over agribusiness demonstrate little regard for preserving a viable water supply.

The VA Hospital that Cost $1.7 Billion to Build…So Far
    Posted: 14 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
A new veterans’ hospital in Colorado is on track to become one of the most expensive medical centers in the world with a price tag so far of $1.7 billion. Like so many other things associated with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the hospital in Aurora has been plagued by bad decisions that are proving very costly. The facility was originally budgeted at $328 million. The VA says it will now need another $830 million to finish the project, which is going to take another five years.
Inaccurate police drug testing kits are a 'secret'
    Posted: 14 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
"We will be evaluating the accuracy of the devices against the most accurate laboratory standard available - GC/MS testing. However, perhaps the key distinguishing feature of this project is that it is a field test. NHTSA and the Center for Human Toxicology have already conducted a thorough laboratory test of the leading on-site drug screening devices. The goal of this project is to assess how well these devices perform when placed in the hands of trained law enforcement personnel as they conduct their routine duties. Techniques that perform well in the laboratory may falter when brought into the "real world" of law enforcement. The research will evaluate how law enforcement officers can use these screening devices as supporting evidence in the detection of drugs in the driving population."

Americans Spent $374 Billion on Big Pharma Drugs Last Year
    Posted: 14 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT
Americans spent more last year on pharmaceutical drugs than the entire military defense budget of China, Russia, and the UK combined. A total of $374 billion to be specific. The latest figure, which comes from the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics as reported by AP, is the highest jump we’ve seen since 2001 — and even 13% higher than 2013. The astronomical $374 billion figure contributed to record-shattering numbers of prescription drugs being purchased from pleasantly surprised pharmacies around the nation. More than 4.3 billion prescriptions were dispensed in 2014, with Medicaid covering around 17% and pushing heavily on the total increase.

I’ve discussed the stock market mythand the Hillary Clinton myth in some detail, but today I want to expound upon the public welfare, i.e., food stamp myth.
