Graves Waiting For Bodies: Major War Escalation in Ukraine; In 5 Weeks Ukraine Out of Money Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST We regret having to interrupt feel-good weekend articles with more sobering news. In Ukraine, major battles have broken out over the past couple weeks. Mainstream media has widely ignored the story because of Greece, then Charlie, and then the Swiss Franc. And of course Western media has no interest in reporting news the rebels are winning. |
Smart Mobility Tracking: Ford Experimenting With Big Data in a Big Brother Kind of Way Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST Ford has a plan, nay, an ongoing effort to leverage the latest in communications and data-collection technology to make life better for you, the hapless schnook just trying to get from place to place. It’s called the “Smart Mobility” plan, and at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Ford CEO Mark Fields dropped some fresh news on the endeavor. |
Near Billion Dollar Loss After Swiss Bank Change in Policy Blows Up Hedge Fund Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST Everest Capital's Global Fund has lost almost all its money after the Swiss National Bank scrapped its three-year-old cap on the franc against the euro, Bloomberg news reports. The fund, like many others, had a major "carry trade" position on that worked only if the Swiss central bank continued to prop up the euro. When SNB pulled the plug on support, carry traders experienced massive losses. (SEE:Understanding the Swiss Central Bank Move and Its Implications for the Rest of 2015: A Guide for Dummies) Everest had about $830 million in assets at the end of 2014, according to a client report cited by Bloomberg. That is now all gone, The fund is dead. |
This 88-year-old doctor treats the poor out of his Toyota Camry. Mississippi wants to punish him for it. Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST They arrest people for feeding homeless people in some cities. And God forbid you are a doctor in Mississippi with an excellent reputation who wants to treat people for free. Can’t have that. Many of Dr. Landrum’s patients can’t afford to drive to a doctor’s office. So he comes and sees them. I thought that was called a “house call.” |
Police State PR: Cop Rocking Out To Taylor Swift Exposed As Publicity Stunt Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST We asked further if that officer knew about the new web series: again, no response. It may seem obvious to some, but others have swallowed this PR-stunt hook-line-and-sinker. The purpose seems to be showing the public the “nicer side” of those guys and gals who pull you over for anything and everything, fine you, lock you in a cage if you don’t pay that fine… And those are just the tame aspects of “community policing.” |
Quote Of The Day: "Venezuela Must Deepen Socialism To Improve Economy" - Maduro Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST Practically presented with no comment, we could not quite believe the words coming out of Venezuela's President Maduro last night as he addressed the nation's concerns over mile-long lines for toothpaste, toilet-paper, bread, and soap: Having apparently failed on his mission to Asia to garner enough support to drag oil prices up to the $100 level he "believes is fair," Maduro went on to explain how he will "change the food supply system, not the economic model," to solve the nation's crisis, since "most of the private sector are parasitic bums." |
Dead Bankers: Missing Hawke's Bay man's body found in UK Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST Tributes are flooding in for a Hawke's Bay man who was found dead on a mountain in northern England this week, after he had been missing for four days. United Kingdom police yesterday confirmed a body found on Helvellyn, a mountain in the English lake District, was that of 45-year-old Michael Flanagan, originally from Napier. |
"De-Dollarization" Deepens: Russia Buys Most Gold In Six Months, Continues Selling US Treasuries Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST The rumors of Russia selling its gold reserves, it is now clear, were greatly exaggerated as not only did Putin not sell, Russian gold reserves rose by their largest amount in six months in December to just over $46 billion (near the highest since April 2013). It appears all the "Russia is selling" chatter did was lower prices enabling them to gather non-fiat physical assets at a lower cost. On the other hand, there is another trend that continues for the Russians - that of reducing their exposure to US Treasury debt. For the 20th month in a row, Russia's holdings of US Treasury debt fell year-over-year - selling into the strength. |
UK sends warship to Falklands as Argentina lease supersonic bombers from Russia Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST ONE of Britain’s newest and most powerful warships was last night heading towards the Falklands to strengthen the islands’ air defences. Navy chiefs have sent HMS Dragon, a Type 45 destroyer, to the South Atlantic after a deployment in Chile. |
Where did Greece’s bailout money go? Mostly to the lenders… Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST There is much talking about debt forgiveness and haircut lately with many economists (finally!) wondering where did the bailout money for Greece go. “Just 10% from the two bailouts totalling €252 billion went into public spending,” UK-based NGO Jubilee Debt Campaign has found out. |

Watch John Kerry apologize to France by having James Taylor sing "You've Got a Friend" Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST Over 1 million people and many prominent world leaders marched in anti-terrorism protests in Paris last Sunday, but the United States government notably failedto send either President Obama or any other high-level official. The next day, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that this was a mistake, and that someone with a higher profile should have been sent. This Friday, however, Secretary of State John Kerry attempted to apologize to France in his own unique way — by having legendary singer-songwriter James Taylor perform "You've Got a Friend" at a Paris press conference. |
You Won’t Believe Which Big-Name Groups are Opposed to Flu Vaccine Mandates Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST Labor unions representing professionals and skilled workers from many fields have publicly opposed mandatory vaccination in written statements to a government organization. Doctors, nurses, surgeons, skilled laborers, teachers, flight attendants, manufacturing employees, energy workers, and members of many more professions have spoken out against mandatory vaccines to the National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC). This news is not new, but you probably didn’t know that so many labor unions and trade groups are collectively against mandatory vaccination. These groups, representing millions of workers, include names that may surprise you. |
The Swiss Franc Chaos Shows Why Negative Interest Rates Don't Work Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST Not long ago, a theory was floated that in order to avert an economic crisis, all central banks had to do was cut interest rates below zero and this would boost growth. That theory was then put to the test in the eurozone and Switzerland. And now, it's failing. In June 2014, the European Central Bank (ECB) decided to cut its deposit rate (the interest rate that it pays on reserves held by the central bank) to -0.10%. In September, this was cut again to -0.20%. |
France Puts Off Delivery of Mistral to Russia "Indefinitely" Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST The first helicopter carrier, which was initially to be turned over to the Russians in October, will remain at quay for the time being. The decision, which is in accordance with recommendations made to François Hollande by the Americans during the G20 summit, is justified by the "situation in the eastern Ukraine" according to a press statement by the French president's office. |

UK: Branded RACIST at five: A little girl who said her friend was 'brown'. Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST Hayley White and her son Elliot, seven, who was branded a racist after he asked a younger boy if he was brown because he was from Africa Summoned to a meeting at her seven-year-old son’s primary school, Hayley White was prepared for a quick chat about his behaviour. But when she was told that Elliott had been at the centre of an ‘incident’ with another pupil that was so serious she would have to sign an official form admitting he was racist, she refused to believe what she was hearing. |
Japan Set To Surpass China As America's Largest Creditor Posted: 17 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST When it comes to America's foreign creditors, only two names matter (except for Belgium whose Euroclear service continues to be used by an anonymous entity(s) to buy up US Treasurys): Japan and China. And it is in the Treasury buying and selling dynamics of these two entities that we can see how Japan's monetary policy has impacted its holdings of US paper, which just hit a new all time high of $1,242 billion, while on the other hand Beijing's official holdings of Treasurys have remained unchanged since the summer of 2011, and which in July declined yet another month to just $1,250 billion, the lowest since January 2013. |

They're old, gray and approaching retirement — but the Marine Corps' EA-6B Prowlers are still fighting terrorists. The service's aging fleet of jets used for electronic warfare have flown hundreds of hours over Iraq and Syria in support of the fight against the Islamic State group. They may be some of the final combat missions for Prowler squadrons before the Corps starts to retire the aircraft and adds electronic warfare capabilities to a variety of platforms.

Shrouded in Mystery, New Bomber Makes Waves
01/19/2015In late spring or early summer, the US Air Force will decide who will build its next-generation bomber. Yet, despite all the hype and public interest, the program remains shrouded in mystery. The Long Range Strike-Bomber (LRS-B) program is stealthy, literally and figuratively. Few details are actually known about the bomber's capabilities or design. But the program's impact is already being widely felt throughout the Pentagon and its industry partners.

Can’t build it? just import it
01/19/2015Delay in its projects leading to a steep escalation in cost has proved to be the bane of the DRDO. The delays have led to the country being left with no option but to equip the armed forces with expensive foreign equipment. A report of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on defence tabled in Parliament just last month let the cat out of the bag.

Nunca...
